The rescue service of the Social Medical Service is there in emergencies and helps with accidents, serious injuries, acute illnesses and much more! Our highly trained emergency doctors and paramedics as well as our state-of-the-art technology in the emergency vehicles ensure optimal care in an emergency. Our rescue teams provide medical assistance on site and ensure rapid transport to the nearest suitable hospital.
Our emergency services in both Vienna and Lower Austria are alerted directly via the general rescue emergency number 144.

Do you have an emergency and can neither call nor use the emergency call app or would you like to trigger a “silent alarm” in the event of imminent danger such as a violent crime? Alternatively, send an SMS or FAX to 0800 133 133. First write your exact address, then what happened: the police will continue to process your emergency call.
Further information about our rescue transports
The SMD is a member of the Vienna Rescue Association and operates a rescue station in Aspang-Markt (Neunkirchen district in Lower Austria). A wide variety of rescue operations are carried out every day in order to make our contribution to complete coverage in the rescue service in Vienna and Lower Austria. The vehicles are manned by at least two rescue or emergency paramedics. The basic equipment of the vehicles corresponds to EN 1789, the European standard for emergency service vehicles.
According to the equipment guidelines of EN 1789, medical equipment such as defibrillator, 12-channel ECG, pulse oximeter (to determine arterial oxygen saturation), suction unit and extensive equipment for rescuing and caring for injured people, e.g. after accidents and much more, are carried especially for emergencies in an emergency to be able to carry out life-saving emergency measures and medical measures at the highest quality level. If life is in acute danger, an external emergency doctor can be called in at any time to provide emergency medical care for the patient.
Our control center is staffed around the clock by EMD (emergency medical dispatch) certified dispatchers who work according to the international gold standard for emergency call dispatch, the Priority Disptach System™ (MPDS®/AMPDS®). In addition to your own training, the final examination and certification is carried out by the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Through this extensive training and accreditation, the SMD guarantees competence at the highest international level.
